Pay It Forward

On December 5, 2013 I posted a small post on my Facebook page that goes like this… 2013 Creative Pay It Forward: The first five people to comment on this status will receive from me, sometime in the next calendar year, a gift -perhaps a book, or baked goods, or a candle, music, or a surprise! There will likely be no warning, and it will happen when the mood strikes me. The catch? Those five people must make the same offer in their Facebook status. Who’s in? I think this sounds fun and interesting. I soon started seeing other friends post something similar on their pages.  I thought wow what a great idea. Why limit it to five people? My Teen Camp Experience

Several weeks ago I was able to spend the whole weekend with 10 teen moms in a camp in Northern Michigan.  It was very scary at first since this was my first time volunteering as “mentor mom” and first time going to a camp ever in my life (city girl). My hope was that I could a plant seed (Mark 4:30-32) in these young mom’s lives to better their life in turn better their children’s life. Even though I wasn’t a teen mom, I could relate to what these women were going through. I grew up in a single parent household with very few relatives around. When I was born my mom became the outcast of her family because she had a biracial child. Like many teen moms, they become outcasts because people felt what they did was wrong. I get that. I...

Encouraging One Another

With the ecomony the way it is and lack of jobs, people need encouragement more then any else right now. Americans have a lot of pride and many won’t say they are struggling but they are. My daily prayers have included struggling teen moms, the unemployment of many hard working people, the american education system and our political system. My prayer is it to be fixed but I can do it with Him who gives us strength. But what I can do is to encourage someone I know that might be having a hard time or volunteering when I can.  Sending a card won’t get someone a job but it will help them focus on something positive if only for a minute.  Do you have a minute to give someone a call or send a card to?
